Hyderabad: Telangana Assembly saw a fiery speech by BJP MLA Palvai Harish on the P.C. Ghose Commission report about the Kaleshwaram project. Harish condemned the petition by former CM K. Chandrashekar Rao and Harish Rao in the High Court to block the report’s discussion in the Assembly, calling it "outrageous."
Harish urged BRS leaders to recognise that "if the foundation is shaken, the legs cannot stand firm," holding KCR fully responsible for the corruption in the irrigation project. He criticised BRS leaders’ repeated court petitions to stall Assembly decisions, noting, "The then CM KCR decided to construct a barrage at Medigadda," and stressed accountability.
Highlighting misused public funds, Harish said, "In the name of Kaleshwaram, public funds were misused," noting BRS leaders portrayed KCR as the project’s chief doer, beneficiary, and executor. He added, "Now, we are not getting even a drop of water from Kaleshwaram," questioning the project’s efficacy.
Harish questioned the startling statistics revealed by recent ACB raids, which uncovered that engineers worked on the Kaleshwaram project amassed crores of rupees. He provocatively asked how many crores former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao himself accumulated through the Kaleshwaram project, highlighting concerns over large-scale corruption and financial irregularities linked to the controversial irrigation initiative.
Harish demanded clarity on recovering lost funds, asking if it would come from agencies or KCR’s family. He revealed the government borrowed ₹87,000 crore to rush the project in two years, raising concerns over management and financial integrity.
His speech called for strict punishment to deter political corruption and demanded accountability to protect public resources, sending a strong message to politicians.
