BJP's Gudur Narayana Reddy Demands White Paper On Government Lands Under Litigation

He said the verdict should prompt a comprehensive review of similar disputes across Telangana.

Hyderabad:Senior BJP leader Gudur Narayana Reddy demanded that the Congress government release a comprehensive white paper on all government and public lands involved in litigation across the state.

Narayana Reddy said the Supreme Court's October 29 judgment upholding the state government's ownership of approximately 550 acres of prime land in Miyapur had exposed the magnitude of public property caught in prolonged legal battles. He said the verdict should prompt a comprehensive review of similar disputes across Telangana.

"The Miyapur case demonstrates both the enormous value of public land and the consequences of litigation continuing for decades. If a single dispute involves land worth thousands of crores, the people have every right to know how much more government property remains entangled in court cases and what steps are being taken to resolve them," he said.

Narayana Reddy said Miyapur was not an isolated case. Citing a recent review by the Hyderabad District Collector, he said 238 court cases involved approximately 12 lakh square yards of government land, against the district's total government land bank of 21.74 lakh square yards. This meant more than half the available government land was under litigation, with Shaikpet mandal accounting for the highest number of disputes at around 50.

He further pointed out that nearly 7,000 cases concerning revenue department matters and Section 22-A prohibited property lists were pending, largely before the High Court, while the Waqf Board faced approximately 5,500 disputes across various judicial forums. He said high-value land disputes also continued in Kancha Gachibowli, Kukatpally and Manchirevula.
