Hyderabad:Reflecting divergent political positions, September 17, the day the princely state of Hyderabad merged with the Indian Union in 1948, will be observed as ‘Liberation Day’ by the BJP, while the BRS will continue to observe it as ‘Integration Day’.
According to BJP leaders, the Union government has officially celebrated the occasion as ‘Telangana Liberation Day’ in each of the past four years. As part of the celebrations, special parades by paramilitary forces and various cultural programmes will be organised. Vice-President C.P. Others attending the event include Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla; Union tourism minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat; Union coal and mines minister G. Kishan Reddy; Union minister of state for home affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar; MP Eatala Rajender; and BJP Telangana state president N. Ramchander Rao. The celebrations are scheduled to be held from 7.30 am to noon.

Some socio-political groups have decided to observe the occasion in remembrance of the ‘police action’, while leaders of Tahreek Muslim Shabban will pay their respects to Mir Osman Ali Khan, the 7th Nizam, at his grave in Masjid-e-Judi at King Koti.
