BJP Slams Cong Over Cane-Charge on Jobless Youth

Venkateshwarlu also criticised minister Sridhar Babu’s remarks in the Legislative Council claiming 70,000 jobs had been filled

HYDERABAD: The BJP condemned the alleged police lathicharge on unemployed youth protesting at Ashoknagar in Chikkadpally late on Thursday night, and demanded the immediate release of those arrested and fulfillment of Congress’s pre-poll promises on jobs.

At a press conference here, BJP state vice-president Dr Kasam Venkateshwarlu questioned whether seeking employment had become a crime under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s rule. He accused the government of betraying youth who trusted assurances made by Rahul Gandhi and Revanth Reddy at the Ashoknagar library during the election campaign, including a job calendar within 100 days and 2 lakh jobs annually.

Protesters, led by Motilal, had rallied from Dilsukhnagar demanding the job calendar. Police allegedly resorted to force, injuring several, dragging them through the streets, and detaining even women until midnight at Nampally and Chikkadpally police stations.

Venkateshwarlu also criticised minister Sridhar Babu’s remarks in the Legislative Council claiming 70,000 jobs had been filled. He demanded a white paper on recruitments and an apology for “belittling youth” by suggesting private jobs. He reiterated demands for an unemployment allowance of ₹4,000, Rajiv Yuva Vikasam aid, free scooters, job notifications, and transparency in recruitment.

He declared that the BJP would continue its agitation until promises such as the release of the job calendar are met, describing Revanth Reddy’s praja palana as “police repression rule.”
