BJP Slams Cong. Govt for 7.6% Allocation in Budget for Education

Only 7.6% allocation, 73% teaching posts vacant in universities, BJP alleges.

Hyderabad: The BJP on Tuesday accused the Congress government of betraying its promise of 15 per cent budget allocation for education by settling for just 7.6 per cent. Party leaders highlighted that for over three-fourths, teaching posts for professors, associate professors, and assistants remain vacant in degree colleges and universities across Telangana.

Speaking to reporters, BJP vice-president Dr Kasam Venkateshwarlu cited stark figures. Of 2,819 sanctioned posts in 11 state universities — including Osmania, Kakatiya, Telangana University, Mahatma Gandhi University, Satavahana, Palamuru, Telugu, BR Ambedkar Open University, JNTU, JNAFAU, and RJUKT — 2,059 posts (73 per cent) are vacant. Shockingly, six universities lack even a single professor, crippling doctoral research, UGC rankings due to zero published papers, and funding from the higher education apex body.

In 150-degree colleges, only 1,255 of 4,098 sanctioned posts are filled. leaving 2,843 vacancies. Teacher training has been neglected amid new syllabi and tech demands. The vice-chancellors in their meeting declared that higher education in the state has been ‘dismantled,’ and it reflects the condition of higher education, the BJP leader pointed out.

Dr Venkateshwarlu pointed out the government-appointed committee led by K. Keshava Rao, to draft a Telangana Education Policy, has failed to submit its report before the deadline of October 30. The panel neither held any meetings nor drafted a report. He also slammed Chief Minister A. Revanth. Reddy's recent Osmania University visit as a bid for “Urban Naxal” support, ignoring real issues as the university has only 331 teaching staff as against 1,267 sanctioned posts, with 73 percent of posts remaining vacant.

The BJP leader urged Reddy to avoid his predecessor KCR’s errors and take urgent steps to revive education. BJP vice-president Kolli Madhavi, secretary O. Srinivas Reddy, SC Morcha president Kranti Kiran, and others joined the media briefing.
