BJP Questions ‘Cong Scion’s’ Political Ambitions
Reacting to the reported revelation, Subash said the claim appeared contradictory in the light of allegations about Sonia Gandhi’s influence over the UPA government.

Hyderabad:BJP state chief spokesperson N.V. Subash questioned how Sonia Gandhi could claim to have opposed her late husband Rajiv Gandhi becoming prime minister while allegedly remaining hopeful to see her son Rahul Gandhi occupy the same office.
While referring to Sonia Gandhi’s yet to released memoirs, “Belonging, A Journey of Love”, whose promotional teasers have intrigued the politicians, the BJP leader raised questions about the Congress leadership’s political ambitions and its approach to succession within the Gandhi family.
Reacting to the reported revelation, Subash said the claim appeared contradictory in the light of allegations about Sonia Gandhi’s influence over the UPA government. “What sounds bizarre is that Sonia Gandhi now claims she was against her husband becoming prime minister, while Sanjay Baru, former press adviser to Dr Manmohan Singh, offered a very different account of the power structure in his book “The Accidental Prime Minister,” he said.
He contrasted this with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, asserting that his government had earned public support through good governance and efforts to take the country to greater heights. “If this is not hypocrisy, what else is it?” Subash asked, alleging that the Congress continued to treat the country’s highest political office as a family inheritance rather than a position to be earned through democratic support.
He also recalled the political uncertainty following Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination in 1991 and referred to the subsequent debate over Sonia Gandhi’s possible elevation to the prime ministerial post in 2004.
