BJP Must Carry Blame for Letting Down Women: KTR
Rama Rao said it was a complex matter and the Centre must hold wide consultations before proceeding further.

Hyderabad:The Bharat Rashtra Samithi on Friday held the BJP responsible for the failure of the Central government to get the women’s reservation Bill passed in Parliament. BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao, in a statement, said the Bill failed primarily because the BJP deliberately linked it with the contentious issue of delimitation.
All parties, including the BRS, extended support to women’s reservations, but the BJP’s political approach doomed the Bill, he said. A historic opportunity for women’s empowerment was lost because of the BJP’s machinations. “The reservations could have been implemented immediately within the existing 543 Lok Sabha seats, but the BJP chose to politicise the issue,” he added.
“The BJP must immediately bring a fresh women’s reservation Bill without linking it to delimitation and ensure its implementation from the upcoming elections to prove its sincerity,” Rama Rao said.
On delimitation, Rama Rao said it was a complex matter and the Centre must hold wide consultations before proceeding further. He questioned the Centre’s silence on increasing the number of Assembly seats in Telangana, as per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.
“While seats in Jammu & Kashmir and Assam were increased without linking them to nationwide delimitation, why was Telangana, which was promised more seats in the Reorganisation Act, ignored?” Rama Rao asked.
