BJP MP DK Aruna Slams Revanth Reddy Over 'Criminal Waste' Remark on Engineering Students
She said parents from poor backgrounds faced immense hardships to send their children to colleges.
Hyderabad:BJP MP D.K. Aruna called Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s recent description of engineering students as a “criminal waste” as insensitive and insulting to lakhs of students and their families. Aruna said the Chief Minister had forgotten the dignity of his office while speaking.
She said parents from poor backgrounds faced immense hardships to send their children to colleges. “When such students are called a criminal waste, it is unacceptable,” she said and demanded an unconditional apology from Revanth Reddy.
The MP pointed out that the education portfolio was with the Chief Minister and asked why quality education was not being delivered. She alleged that the government had failed to strengthen the system and was now blaming students.
She also criticized the police action against students who staged peaceful protests over fee reimbursement and other demands in Mahbubnagar, saying baton charges and filing cases against them was “painful” and unwarranted. “Police should not act as if they owe loyalty only to this government and remember what happened to the previous regime,” she warned, urging authorities not to register any cases against the students.
Aruna took aim at Revanth Reddy’s references to attending short courses at Harvard University, saying not every student gets such opportunities and challenging him to create similar avenues for all. “If you have the capability, provide such opportunities to students instead of humiliating them,” she said, adding that the Chief Minister has no moral right to continue as education minister and should resign from the portfolio.
