BJP MLA Harish Babu Ends Hunger Strike Over Forest Corridor Order as Health Worsens
Sirpur (T) MLA Palvai Harish Babu on Friday ended his indefinite hunger strike on the fifth day at his residence in Kagaznagar, Komaram Bheem Asifabad district.

ADILABAD: Sirpur (T) MLA Palvai Harish Babu on Friday ended his indefinite hunger strike on the fifth day at his residence in Kagaznagar, Komaram Bheem Asifabad district. His health condition was stated to be worsening, with dangerously low sugar levels and rising bilirubin and uric acid. Government doctors confirmed the seriousness of his condition.
Harish Babu had launched the strike demanding that the state government cancel GO No. 49, which declared the corridor between Tadoba Andhari and Kawal tiger reserves as a conservation reserve.
BJP Legislative Party floor leader Aleti Maheshwar Reddy offered juice to the MLA to mark the end of his strike. Party legislators Aleti Maheshwar Reddy, Payal Shankar, Rakesh Reddy, and Venkataramana Reddy said they would continue to fight in the Assembly for the cancellation of GO No. 49, which has been kept under abeyance, and strive to secure justice for both Adivasis and non-tribals.
Earlier, BJP state president N. Ramchander Rao expressed solidarity with Harish Babu. The party says the GO stalled development in 339 villages, including housing. Forest department obstruction and lack of coordination with other agencies left nearly 100 villages without road access. Despite protests, the government has not withdrawn the order issued on May 30.
Second, podu cultivation remains unresolved. BJP charged that despite Congress’s promises, the government continues repressive actions against SC, ST, and BC farmers, with forest officials seizing land and threatening livelihoods in North Telangana.
