BJP Mahila Morcha Submits Memorandum To Governor On Growing Incidents Of Cases Against Women In The State
BJP Mahila Morcha urged Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla to act against rising crimes against women and strengthen women’s safety measures.
The BJP Mahila Morcha has submitted a memorandum to Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Friday, demanding strict action over growing atrocities against women in Telangana and alleging that law and order has completely collapsed under the Congress government.
Criticising Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for retaining the home portfolio, she said crimes against women have nearly doubled, with 24,945 cases registered, including 5,940 sexual assaults and 2,945 rape cases. She urged the Governor to direct the government to strengthen security for women in hospitals and hostels and revive She Teams and fast-track courts.
The delegation led by Mahila Morcha state president Dr Mekala Shilpa Reddy, highlighted the Tukkuguda incident of August 28, where a tribal nurse was raped and murdered by Mohammed Sanaulla Khan. They demanded immediate death penalty for the accused through a fast-track court, `1 crore ex-gratia to the victim's family, and a government job for her mother or brother.
Dr Shilpa Reddy also drew attention to an attack on the mother of Nalgonda BJP president Dr Nagam Varshith Reddy. She alleged that a Congress mayor and his supporters entered Varshith Reddy's residence, damaged furniture, and physically assaulted the elderly woman, who later suffered a heart stroke and is undergoing treatment at hospital. Despite CCTV evidence and a complaint filed against the accused, the police have not registered an FIR, she claimed, demanding arrest of the mayor and his associates.
