BJP Labels Revanth-KTR Debate a “Political Drama,” Demands Emergency Assembly Session
The BJP called on both Congress and BRS to stop engaging in “headline-hunting drama”

Hyderabad, July 8: The BJP said the public debate challenge between BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy was a “staged political drama” aimed at diverting attention from pressing issues.
BJP state chief spokesperson N.V. Subash dismissed Rao’s invitation for the debate a “frivolous stunt” and pointed out that it was issued while the Chief Minister was away in New Delhi.
Subash said that substantive debates on governance should take place in the Assembly, not on public platforms. He accused both the Congress and the BRS of engaging in theatrics to mislead the public and asserted that both parties share responsibility for Telangana’s financial crisis.
He highlighted that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy ahd acknowledged inheriting a debt burden of over `7 lakh crore, which, according to Subash, undermined the BRS’ claims of good governance.
The BJP leader alleged that since statehood in 2014, BRS had mismanaged resources through “short-sighted policies, rampant corruption, and divisive appeasement politics,” claiming no other state had seen such caste- and community-based appeasement.
Subash also accused Rama Rao of trying to divert attention from ongoing investigations, including the phone tapping scandal and irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project, describing the public debate as a “smokescreen to escape scrutiny.”
He criticised the Congress government for focusing on “media optics” rather than substantive action, despite launching probes into alleged BRS misrule.
The BJP called on both Congress and BRS to stop engaging in “headline-hunting drama” and instead convene an emergency session of the Assembly, urging all parties to present their facts before the people’s representatives. Subash also criticized successive governments for restricting Assembly sessions to only a few days, arguing that issues of public interest deserve comprehensive discussion rather than brief, token debates. “The people of Telangana deserve substance, not spectacle,” Subash concluded.
