BJP Demands Judicial Probe Into 22A Issues, Forces Adjournment, Later Walks Out
Payal Shankar, condemning Madhusudhan’s comments, said the BJP was dissatisfied with the government’s reaction to its demand, and said that the party was walking out of the House in protest.
Hyderabad:The issue of Section 22A of the Registration Act made its impact on the first day of the Telangana Legislative Assembly on Monday when a vociferous BJP forced an adjournment of the House soon after it met, remaining unrelenting on its demand that it would not be satisfied with anything short of an inquiry by a judge into the inclusion of properties into the prohibited list.
After the House reconvened after lunch break, the BJP walked out protesting the reluctance of the government to take its demand into consideration.
BJP MLAs K. Venkataramana Reddy, Dhanpal Suryanarayana, Rama Rao Pawar, Payal Shankar, Paidi Rakesh Reddy, led by party floor leader A. Maheshwar Reddy, soon after the rendering of the National Anthem, the National Song and the State Song, marched into the well of the House, holding placards demanding a judicial probe into Section 22A issues. A little later, they were joined by Palvai Harish Babu.
Later in the day after the House reconvened in the afternoon after the adjournment, Maheshwar Reddy taking part in the discussion on BRS MLC Tata Madhusudhan’s objectional comments on the Speaker, questioned the government’s reluctance for a probe sayingL “The revenue minister himself apologized for what happened with Section 22A. The government must give an assurance on the probe.”
He also said that the government had promised a forensic audit into Section 22A, and asked where the audit report was and questioned why it had not been placed in the House. Payal Shankar, condemning Madhusudhan’s comments, said the BJP was dissatisfied with the government’s reaction to its demand, and said that the party was walking out of the House in protest.
Earlier in the morning, soon after Speaker G Prasad Kumar started the proceedings with Question Hour, BJP MLAs, shouting their demand for a probe, walked into the well of the House, squatted on the floor and continued their protest.
The Speaker appealed to them to return to their seats, and said that bringing placards into the House was not allowed and asked them to hand them over to the security marshals who by then, formed a ring around them to prevent them from any move towards the Speaker’s podium.
Legislative affairs minister D Sridhar Babu also appealed to the BJP members declaring that the government itself was ready for a threadbare discussion on 22A issues, and was ready for a short discussion on the subject. The BJP, he said, can raise all their concerns, make their demands, and seek action they want during the discussion.
However, with the BJP MLAs continuing their protests, the Speaker instructed the marshals to take away the placards, and with the protest continuing despite repeated appeals from him and Sridhar Babu, adjourned the House barely 30 minutes after the session began.
