Hyderabad:BJP state president N. Ramchander Rao on Thursday demanded that the Congress government immediately resolve pending local issues in tribal areas, particularly those relating to podu land, instead of only making promises during elections.
He was addressing a gathering after paying floral tributes to on the birth anniversary of tribal freedom fighter Komaram Bheem here. Union coal and mines minister G. Kishan Reddy, party MPs, MLAs and other leaders also paid tributes, raising slogans of “Johar Komaram Bheem” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai.”
Rao recalled that Komaram Bheem fought against the Nizam’s rule under the slogan “Jal, Jungle, Zameen” (Water, Forest, Land), championing the rights of tribal communities over land and natural resources. He said the leader’s legacy continued to inspire the Telangana movement and people’s everyday struggles.
Criticising the Congress government, Rao alleged that agency and tribal areas had been neglected in terms of development. He cited inadequate medical facilities, poor road connectivity, insufficient schools and problems related to the roster system for Scheduled Tribe reservations.
He urged the government to move beyond symbolic tributes and take concrete measures to protect tribal rights, ensure welfare and address long-pending grievances in tribal regions.
