BJP Cadres Celebrate Bengal Win as 'Telangana Next'

Social media buzzed with slogans such as “Bengal today, Telangana tomorrow,” “Didi gayi,” and “Congress‑mukt Telangana,” drawing parallels between Mamata Banerjee’s defeat and what BJP leaders termed the dynastic politics of BRS and Congress.

Hyderabad: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Telangana unit erupted in celebration on Monday, buoyed by landslide victories in West Bengal and retention of power in Assam and Puducherry. Party workers described the results as a “dress rehearsal” for Telangana, hitting the streets with rallies, flags and social media chants of “Telangana Next” and “Operation Telangana.”

As early trends showed comfortable leads, leaders and cadres converged at the state headquarters, Dr Shyama Prasad Mookerjee Bhavan, to the sound of dhol, pata and brass bands. Crackers were burst and sweets distributed, with every surge in the party’s tally sparking cheers of “Jai Shri Ram.” District leaders, old‑timers and aspirants for tickets and posts joined the revelry, keen to be seen by seniors.

Veteran worker Mantri Kalavathi, a 45‑year party hand, said she wanted to stay visible amid the influx of new leaders. Young leader Alekhya Pratap and former mayor Banda Kartika Reddy arrived with dozens of supporters, declaring, “Ab ki baar, BJP sarkar in three city corporations.”

Leaders framed the wins as a “death knell” for divisive forces, positioning BJP as the sole alternative ahead of municipal corporation polls and the next Assembly elections.

The euphoria signals aggressive outreach, with eyes on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s May 10 Hyderabad rally as a launchpad for the state campaign. Telangana BJP leaders said the momentum from national triumphs would be replicated locally, pushing “Congress‑mukt” slogans and intensifying outreach to women and youth.
