Bjp Alleges 'Education Jihad' Over Kalma Homework

The minister urged the administration and police to take action against those responsible and described the episode as a breach of secular norms in educational institutions

HYDERABAD: BJP Telangana president N. Ramchander Rao on Thursday demanded action against a private school in Saidabad for allegedly asking a Class II Hindu student to copy the Kalma and learn “Surah Al-Fatiha” as homework.

Calling the incident objectionable, Ramchander Rao said the child’s mother had questioned the school management and brought the matter to light. He alleged that action against an individual teacher would not be enough and sought accountability from the school management.

Ramchander Rao also accused the state government and the education department of failing to act firmly, and said schools must focus on education while respecting the constitutional rights of all students.

He alleged that such practices have increased under the present state government and held Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy responsible, linking it to what he described as vote-bank politics.

Meanwhile, Union minister for coal and mines G. Kishan Reddy on Thursday condemned the incident at the private school in Saidabad, Hyderabad.

Posting on X, he termed the incident “religious indoctrination of innocent minors” and alleged that it reflected “poisonous politics of appeasement”, holding the state government responsible.

The minister urged the administration and police to take action against those responsible and described the episode as a breach of secular norms in educational institutions.

BJP chief spokesperson N.V. Subhash also criticised the reported incident, calling it “condemnable and shameful” and sought an impartial inquiry. He demanded action against those responsible and, if necessary, cancellation of the school’s recognition. He also urged the state government to act to address concerns of parents and ensure adherence to secular principles in schools.
