BJP Activists Attack BRS MLA’s Camp Office in Karimnagar

Protesters broke through the gates raising slogans of “Go back Kaushik Reddy”. His security personnel prevented entry into the inner chambers until police arrived. He was later shifted to a safe location

KARIMNAGAR: Karimnagar saw violence on Thursday when BJP activists attacked the camp office of MLA Gangula Kamalakar during a visit by Huzurabad MLA Padi Koushik Reddy. The mob allegedly targeted the premises over remarks against Union minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar, pelting stones and using wooden logs to damage property. Windows of Koushik Reddy’s vehicle, office furniture and flower pots were damaged.

The confrontation followed a dispute over a drug test challenge. Sanjay Kumar had challenged BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao to undergo a drug test. In response, Koushik Reddy alleged that Sanjay Kumar consumed drugs mixed with tobacco and should be tested first. BJP supporters gathered at the camp office after learning of Koushik Reddy’s presence.

Protesters broke through the gates raising slogans of “Go back Kaushik Reddy”. His security personnel prevented entry into the inner chambers until police arrived. He was later shifted to a safe location. Police resorted to a lathi charge to disperse the crowd, with several protesters sustaining minor injuries.

Koushik Reddy alleged that Sanjay Kumar and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy were behind a pre-planned attempt on his life, claiming the attackers carried sticks, knives and petrol bombs. BJP leaders rejected the allegation and said the protest was in response to remarks against a Union minister, and challenged the MLA to a public debate. BRS district president G.V. Ramakrishna Rao called for a Karimnagar town bandh on May 9, demanding action against those involved.

Police registered a case, took several BJP activists into custody and deployed additional forces across the town. Preventive restrictions have been imposed to avert further clashes.
