Bison Division Pays Tribute to Fallen Soldiers

A wreath-laying ceremony in Secunderabad marked the 80th Infantry Day, honouring soldiers who sacrificed their lives in service to the nation.

The Bison Division commemorated the 80th Infantry Day with a wreath-laying ceremony at its War Memorial in Secunderabad, paying tribute to soldiers who laid down their lives in the service of the nation.

The General Officer Commanding of the division laid a wreath in honour of the fallen soldiers. Serving officers, junior commissioned officers, other ranks and veterans attended the ceremony, according to a press release issued by the Press Information Bureau's Defence Wing.

Infantry Day, also known as Shaurya Diwas, is observed on October 27 every year to commemorate the landing of the 1st Battalion of the Sikh Regiment in Srinagar in 1947 to defend Jammu and Kashmir against tribal raiders from Pakistan. The occasion honours the courage and sacrifice of infantry personnel who defended the country during the 1947 conflict and those who have served since.

The division said the ceremony reaffirmed the infantry's traditions of "courage, commitment and service before self".
