Hyderabad:Connecting the strands of research and public health, a Singapore-based researcher has used his work to extend personalised healthcare to common people. Owing to his contributions to these fields, the state government will felicitate Prof. Patrick Tan, executive director of PRECISE (Precision Health Research, Singapore), National University of Singapore, for his contribution to the field of medicine, cancer genomics and population health research.
The Genome Valley Excellence Award will be presented to him at Bio Asia 2025, the annual global biotechnology and life sciences forum organised by the government, from February 24 to 26 at the HICC in Hitec City.
Prof. Tan has played a significant role in advancing biomedical research and personalised healthcare, particularly through integrating genomics with clinical care. His research has led to discoveries in cancer biology, especially in gastrointestinal cancers, and the identification of novel biomarkers for targeted therapies. At PRECISE, Prof. Tan has spearheaded Singapore’s national precision medicine programme, which integrates advanced genomic research with artificial intelligence to create predictive models for disease prevention and treatment.
His efforts have bridged the gap between research and clinical practice, impacting healthcare systems worldwide. Prof. Tan’s leadership in population genomics initiatives has helped build one of southeast Asia’s most comprehensive genomic databases, addressing the underrepresentation of Asian populations in global genomic research and improving the relevance of precision health solutions across diverse populations.
