Bhu Bharati a Model for India: Ponguleti

The minister noted that revenue meetings conducted as part of the pilot project have already received nearly 13,000 land-related applications.

Karimnagar: After studying land laws in around 18 states across the country and taking relevant facts and ground realities into consideration, the Congress government has introduced the new Bhu Bharati (Record of Rights in Land) Act and it is going to become a role model for the country, said the revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy.

The minister, accompanied by government chief whip and Dharmapuri MLA Adluri Laxman Kumar, Jagtial MLA S. Sanjay Kumar, district collector B. Satya Prasad and SP Ashok Kumar, took part in a revenue review meeting at Buggaram mandal in Jagtial district on Saturday. The mandal was chosen for the pilot phase of the Act’s implementation.

Speaking at the gathering, Srinivas Reddy said the Bhu Bharati Act was drafted following Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s directive to consult lakhs of citizens and experts, to ensure justice for the poor and resolving long-pending land disputes. He criticised the previous BRS government, saying former chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao launched the Dharani portal without adequate consultation, which led to widespread hardship for farmers and landowners.

The minister noted that revenue meetings conducted as part of the pilot project have already received nearly 13,000 land-related applications. He said the government is actively working to resolve them at the earliest.

“To improve service delivery, the government is decentralising functions from the tahsildar level to the chief commissioner of land administration (CCLA). Citizens will now have the right to appeal for resolution under the provisions of the Bhu Bharati Act,” he explained.

Each mandal will be assigned 10 to 15 surveyors to expedite the resolution of land disputes. From June 2, the government will strengthen the revenue system further by appointing new revenue staff to all 10,956 revenue villages across the state. A clear and updated record of land transactions is expected to be prepared by December 31, the minister added.

On the Indiramma Housing Scheme, Srinivas Reddy said the selection of beneficiaries across the state will be completed by the end of this month. Distribution of houses to the eligible poor will begin thereafter and continue for five years, to ensure that every poor family owns a home.
