Bhongir MP Accuses Centre of Creating Urea Shortage in Telangana
Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy accuses NDA government of deliberately withholding fertiliser, says farmers hit hard in Kharif season.

Hyderabad: Bhongir Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy on Sunday blamed the NDA-led BJP government at the Centre for deliberately creating a shortfall of urea in Telangana to trouble farmers during the Kharif season.
On August 4, the MP wrote to Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers Anupriya Patel seeking the allotment of urea to Telangana for the Kharif season.
In his letter, Kiran Kumar said that 9.80 lakh metric tonnes were allotted to Telangana by the Centre, but the NDA government supplied only 4.36 lakh metric tonnes. Due to this deliberate shortage of urea, farmers are facing difficulties in cultivating crops during the Kharif season.
“The shortage of urea in Telangana is due to the attitude of the central government. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, agriculture minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, and I have also written letters to fertiliser minister J.P. Nadda five or six times. We even received information from the minister that he had instructed officials to supply urea without any shortage. But the Centre is deliberately delaying the supply of urea to Telangana,” the Bhongir MP alleged.
Kiran Kumar further alleged that at least 6.60 lakh metric tonnes of urea were to be given to the state by July 2025. Farmers who cultivated crops are suffering severely due to the non-timely provision of urea. “This issue will be discussed tomorrow. We will move an adjournment resolution in Parliament,” he said.
