Bhavan’s celebrates golden jubilee

Hyderabad: Bhavan’s Sri Ramakrishna Vidyalaya (BSRKV) at Sainikpuri celebrated its golden jubilee on Friday with a cultural extravaganza. Established in 1974 on a modest scale, with four borrowed tents from the Indian Army and 14 LKG students, the institution’s campus now spans 50 acres and enrolls over 5,000 students.

Principal Vinitha Suresh, speaking about the origin of the institution, explained that the idea for an educational institution here emerged in 1963 to mark Swami Vivekananda’s birth centenary. Though the plan initially lacked support, Brigadier M.K. Rao eventually took on the challenge, founding the BSRKV and helping develop the surrounding Sainikpuri area.

Students enthralled parents and guests with a series of large-scale performances based on the theme Vasudaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family). “We practiced for days to give a perfect performance,” said Class VI student Abhaynath Yadav, who participated in a Lambada dance. “Seeing our parents’ excitement was amazing.”

Present at the event were Jagdish Prakash Lakhani, executive secretary and director-general, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai, and Swami Bodhamayanandaji, Adhyaksha, Ramakrishna Math, Hyderabad and school education commissioner and director E.V. Narsimha Reddy.

The ceremony was presided over by D. Prabhakar Rao, chairman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Sainikpuri Kendra, with vice-chairman Air Cmde J.L.N. Sastry (retd) and honorary secretary Group Captain D. Ramanaiah (retd).

A welcome dance and Ganesh Vandanam set the stage for the unveiling of a newly erected idol of Goddess Saraswati by BSRKV chairman Prabhakar Rao.
