Bhatti Pushes For Solar Plants On Govt Bldgs

The Deputy CM also directed solar power systems to be installed in educational institutions, including government schools, junior and degree colleges and higher education buildings: Reports

HYDERABAD: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu has directed officials to install solar power plants on all government buildings as part of a major push to expand renewable energy.

In a video conference with district collectors, he called for uniformity and efficiency in solar adoption, instructing all district offices to submit detailed plans for installations, including parking lots and canteens. With collectorate buildings sharing similar designs, standard blueprints will be provided from Hyderabad, though alternative district proposals are welcome.

The Deputy CM also directed solar power systems to be installed in educational institutions, including government schools, junior and degree colleges and higher education buildings.

Collectors were asked to compile data on these facilities, as well as large vacant lands under the irrigation and roads and buildings departments, which could host solar projects.

A major focus of the discussion was the Indira Solar Girijana Vikasam scheme, aimed at empowering tribal communities by providing free solar pump sets on ROFR (Right of First Refusal) lands.

Under the ROFR Act, around 6.70 lakh acres in agency areas were distributed by the former Congress government. Launched recently in the Achampet constituency under the Nallamala Declaration, the scheme will soon expand to select areas in Adilabad district.

Stressing the importance of this solar empowerment drive, the Deputy CM urged district officials to promptly submit the required information within a week and avoid any delays. For clarity or assistance, the collectors were encouraged to liaise directly with the principal secretary for energy and the CMDs of SPDCL, NPDCL and REDCO.

The meeting was also attended by social welfare minister Adluri Laxman Kumar, principal secretary for energy Naveen Mittal, SPDCL CMD Musharraf Faruqui and REDCO CMD Anila.
