Bhatti for Pumped Storage, Hydel Power
Bhatti directed officials to ensure that future power generation were environmentally sustainable while preparing comprehensive plans to meet the state’s rising electricity demands over the two decades

HYDERABAD: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has issued a strong call for the large-scale adoption of pumped storage and hydel power to meet the state’s electricity needs over the next two decades. He called for the urgent identification of 23 spots for pumped storage sites to harness this efficient energy storage and generation method.
He highlighted the strategic advantages of such systems, which function as giant “batteries” by storing surplus energy during low-demand periods and releasing it during peak demand. These facilities are important to utilize solar power for nighttime use.
Speaking at a review meeting with Genco and Transco officials in Somasila, Kollapur constituency, the Deputy CM pointed to the foresight of the 1978 Congress government, which had pioneered advanced reverse pumping systems in collaboration with Japanese firms like Toshiba and Mitsubishi.
Bhatti directed officials to ensure that future power generation were environmentally sustainable while preparing comprehensive plans to meet the state’s rising electricity demands over the two decades. He advocated expanding the use of alternative energy sources, including green hydrogen, floating and rooftop solar, thermal, wind, nuclear, and battery storage systems.
To strengthen technical expertise within the power sector, Bhatti mandated a focused three-day training programme for staff at all levels, led by qualified experts, aimed at enhancing skills in emerging technologies.
