Beware of Fake IPL Ticket Booking Links: Malkajgiri Police

The police came to the know circulation of fraudulent websites and fake booking links on social media platforms claiming to provide tickets for the upcoming IPL match between SRH and RCB on May 22

Hyderabad: The Malkajgiri police issued an advisory cautioning cricket fans to beware of fake IPL ticket booking links before the match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and (SRH) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Uppal stadium on May 22.

The police came to the know circulation of fraudulent websites and fake booking links on social media platforms claiming to provide tickets for the upcoming IPL match between SRH and RCB scheduled to be held in Hyderabad on May 22.

The official ticket booking and registration platform for the IPL match is only the District App by Zomato. However, the cyber fraudsters are exploiting the high public demand for IPL tickets by creating fake ticket booking websites and duplicate apps, sharing fraudulent booking finks through WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, X (Twitter), and Facebook.

They were also offering “VIP”, “Tatkal", “Last-minute”, and “Discounted” tickets and collecting payments through UPI, GR codes, bank transfers, and fake payment gateways. They were sending fake screenshots and fabricated booking confirmations

In an advisory, the police asked the public not to trust unknown websites, unofficial inks, or social media advertisements for IPL tickets. The police asked them to verify the authenticity of websites before making any payment and advised them to book tickets only through official platforms and authorized applications.

The police asked the people to avoid making advance payments to unknown persons or agents and not to share OTPs, bank details, CVV numbers, or personal information with strangers. Be cautious of messages creating urgency such as "limited tickets left" or “book within 5 minutes”.

“If cheated or suspicious, immediately call the National Cyber Helpline 1930 (or) Reporting Portal www.cybercrime.gov.in,” the police said that they were actively monitoring such fraudulent activities and appropriate legal action will be initiated against persons involved in online ticket scams and phishing activities.
