The Telangana Commission for Backward Classes has welcomed the government’s tabling of the Social, Economic, Education, Employment, Political and Caste Survey Report - 2024 in the State Assembly.

Hyderabad:The Telangana Commission for Backward Classes has welcomed the government’s tabling of the Social, Economic, Education, Employment, Political and Caste Survey Report - 2024 in the State Assembly. The commission urged the BC leaders and organisations to focus on achieving reservations based on the findings of the survey rather than engaging in debates over the numbers. This, the Commission believes, will help fulfill the long-pending aspirations of the BC community.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, G. Niranjan, chairman of the BC Commission, explained that the survey was comprahensive. "The survey was conducted over 50 days by 1,03,889 enumerators and supervisors in 94,261 enumeration blocks. It covered 1,15,71,457 families in the state, with 1,12,15,134 families (96.9 per cent) surveyed. The 3,56,323 families were not surveyed for various reasons." Niranjan added that the survey revealed that BCs make up 56.66 per cent of the total population, exceeding the expected 42 per cent reservation.
The Commission members have held discussions with enumerators, supervisors and local officials during their visits to former districts, gathering insights at the grassroots level. Additionally, they inspected documentation centers and storage rooms where survey documents are kept.
In its meeting, the Commission reviewed objections on changes to the names of certain castes. They have decided to take a final decision on the matter after conducting field visits to assess the living conditions of the concerned castes. The Commission also announced plans to collect details of employees in various government departments and corporations to assess the implementation of BC reservations in government employment.
Further, the chariman said they would study the possibility of providing reservations in cooperative societies and ensure proper maintenance of roster point registers in government departments. The Commission intends to request caste survey data for a comprehensive study of the BCs.
