BC Leaders to Unveil Phule, Papanna Goud Statues in Hyderabad This Month
The meeting also discussed the next course of action on the BC caste census.
Hyderabad:Leaders from Backward Classes communities including ministers and MLAs have decided to unveil the statues of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule installed near the HMDA ground in Hyderabad on August 14. They also decided to unveil the statues of Sardar Sarvai Papanna Goud installed on Tank Bund on August 18.
Ministers, MLAs and senior leaders of the BC community will jointly meet Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and invite him to attend both programmes. They will also apprise the Chief Minister of issues confronting BC communities and discuss measures required for their resolution.
At a meeting at the residence of BC welfare minister Ponnam Prabhakar at the Ministers’ Quarters here on Saturday, they discussed a range of issues concerning the community, implementation of welfare programmes, statue unveiling programmes and the future course of action for the social, economic and political advancement of BC communities.
The leaders further decided to expedite the construction of Atma Gaurava Bhavans for various BC caste associations. Funds should be sanctioned at the earliest possible time and construction works completed without delay, they said. The meeting also decided to focus on measures to further strengthen the Congress party at the grassroots level.
Present at the meeting were ministers Konda Surekha and Vakiti Srihari, government advisers K. Keshava Rao and V. Hanumantha Rao, BC Commission chairman Niranjan, Rajya Sabha member Anil Kumar Yadav, government whips Adi Srinivas and Beerla Ilaiah, and MLAs Makan Singh Raj Thakur, Naveen Yadav and Eerlapalli Shankaraiah, among others, attended the meeting. TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud and MLA Danam Nagender joined the meeting online.
The meeting also discussed the next course of action on the BC caste census. While the census had been conducted in the state, the participants felt that the aspirations and objectives of community had not been fully achieved and decided to move forward unitedly on the issue.
The leaders resolved to work towards establishing a BC sub-plan with adequate budgetary allocations for the social, economic and political advancement of the community. They also discussed strengthening the BC Commission and extending the support to enable it to address issues faced by the community more effectively.
The participants noted that the fee reimbursement scheme introduced by the erstwhile Congress government was being continued by the present government. They decided to take steps to release pending fee reimbursement dues in phases so that students do not face difficulties in pursuing their education.
The meeting also resolved to ensure that welfare schemes being implemented through the BC welfare department reach beneficiaries more effectively at the grassroots level. It called for adequate funds for the department and greater emphasis on welfare, employment generation and economic empowerment so that BC communities could achieve sustained economic progress.
