Bars, Pubs To Face Action if Patrons Caught Drunk Driving on New Year’s Eve
Drunk driving, rash driving and ride refusals to attract strict penalties

Hyderabad: Ahead of New Year celebrations, the Cyberabad traffic police issued a detailed traffic advisory, warning of strict enforcement against violations, particularly drunk driving and dangerous driving.
According to the advisory, cab, taxi and autorickshaw operators must be in uniform, carry valid documents and should not refuse rides to passengers. Refusal to ply will attract penalties under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Commuters can report such incidents to the Cyberabad traffic police via WhatsApp at 9490617346. Drivers have also been warned against misbehaviour and charging excess fares.
Bars, pubs and clubs have been cautioned against allowing patrons to drive under the influence of alcohol after consuming liquor on their premises. The police said that establishments found knowingly or negligently permitting drunk driving will be prosecuted for abetment of the offence. Managements have been directed to educate customers about the consequences of drunk driving and arrange alternative transport where necessary.
For the general public, the police said special surveillance cameras have been installed to detect violations such as wrong-side driving, unauthorised parking, overspeeding, signal jumping, rash driving and riding without helmets. Those found violating rules will be identified through camera footage and prosecuted. Extensive drunk driving checks will be carried out across Cyberabad limits from 8 pm onwards.
Vehicles may be taken into temporary custody if drivers fail to produce valid documents. Driving by minors or without a valid driving licence will result in seizure of vehicles, with both the owner and driver facing prosecution. The use of high-decibel music systems in vehicles, driving without number plates, overcrowding, travelling atop vehicles and creating public nuisance will also invite strict action. Cases will be booked for rash driving, excessive honking, triple riding and other dangerous practices.
