Bandi Unhappy With Telangana, AP CMs Meet On Banakacharla

KARIMNAGAR: Union minister of state for home affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar expressed dissatisfaction over the conflicting remarks made by the chief ministers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh regarding the Banakacharla project.
Speaking to the media after distributing free bicycles to Class 10 students of government schools in Huzurabad, Karimnagar district, on Thursday, the Union minister said that the Centre had convened a meeting with the leaders of both states to resolve inter-state water disputes. However, he pointed out that the chief ministers attended the meeting with entirely different agendas.
"In the presence of Union Jal Shakti minister C.R. Patil, a committee has been constituted to address the water-related issues between the two states. Both chief ministers agreed to this, which marks a significant achievement by the Union government. Yet, despite this consensus, representatives from both states have made contradictory statements to the media regarding the Banakacharla project. They must clarify to the public what was actually discussed during the meeting," Sanjay Kumar said.
Criticising previous and current state governments, he alleged that the former BRS government colluded with Andhra Pradesh and compromised Telangana's interests concerning Krishna River waters. "Now, the Congress government is following the same path. Both parties are provoking unnecessary conflict over the Banakacharla project purely for political mileage," he added.
Referring to alleged corruption cases involving the family of former chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, Sanjay Kumar cited issues such as drug scandals, illegal phone tapping, and the Formula E race controversy. "Despite these allegations, no convictions have taken place during the 19 months of Congress rule," he said.
He reiterated that the Union Government is ready to initiate a CBI probe into the Kaleshwaram project and other BRS-era scandals if the state government makes a formal request.
Regarding the phone tapping case, Sanjay Kumar revealed that he has received a summons from the SIT to appear for questioning on July 24. "I intend to cooperate fully with the investigation. I will present all the information I possess about the phone tapping incident to the SIT," he affirmed.
