Hyderabad:Union minister of state for home Bandi Sanjay Kumar has demanded a house-to-house resurvey across Telangana, claiming that nearly 60 lakh people were left out of the recent caste survey, which puts the state’s population at 3.7 crore.
In a press release, he criticised the government for its handling of the survey, stating, “The government must correct its mistakes. A resurvey should be conducted with the approval of gram sabhas. The BC population was deliberately undercounted, and even Congress leaders have conflicting views on the survey. The government should link the data with Aadhaar and make it public to ensure transparency. Only then can it be considered scientific. Also, Muslim people should not be included in the BC list.”
Calling the caste survey bogus, he pointed to 3.95 crore Aadhaar cards and 3.35 crore registered voters are there in the State, as per the Election Commission. With 60 lakh school-going children and another 30 lakh non-school-going individuals, he estimated Telangana’s total population to be around 4.3 crore—far higher than the survey suggests.
