Nalgonda: Union minister of state for home Bandi Sanjay on Sunday accused the Congress of reclassifying Muslim minorities as BCs in the caste census to secure local body election victories. Speaking at a BJP district office media conference, Sanjay claimed the move was designed to reduce BC reservations and blamed Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and MIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi for allegedly orchestrating the plan after BC organisations remained silent when Muslim candidates contested BC-reserved GHMC wards.
Bandi also questioned the accuracy of the state’s caste census, noting that the BC population was reported at 46 per cent compared to 51 per cent in the earlier Sakala Janula Survey. He further pointed out discrepancies in population figures, alleging the state was recorded as having 3.7 crore residents instead of the actual 4.3 crore.
In addition, Bandi attacked the Congress for its purported electoral strategy and unmet poll promises. He claimed the party lacked sufficient candidates for MLC elections and had failed to deliver on job creation commitments — issuing notifications for only 25,000 vacancies despite pledging to fill 50,000 posts and promising to create two lakh jobs in one year. He also highlighted that the Congress government had not implemented its promise of a Rs 4,000 incentive for the unemployed, leaving them indebted to the state by Rs 56,000 each, and criticised its failure to extend financial benefits to teachers retiring since March 2023 or provide GPS withdrawal facilities for employees.
Bandi dismissed allegations by Congress leaders that Telangana was shortchanged in the Union budget, daring them to engage in an open debate over fund allocation to the state in the last 11 years.
