Ban On Raw Egg Recipes Sparks Debate

Chefs and bakers expressed concern, arguing that several traditional desserts and sauces rely on raw eggs for texture and flavour.

HYDERABAD: The state food safety authority has imposed a ban on recipes using raw eggs, citing health risks from salmonella contamination. Officials said eateries and bakeries must ensure eggs are fully cooked before serving.

Chefs and bakers expressed concern, arguing that several traditional desserts and sauces rely on raw eggs for texture and flavour. “This will affect authenticity,” said a pastry chef in Secunderabad.

Consumer groups welcomed the move, stressing that public health must take precedence. The authority has warned of penalties for violations and urged citizens to report establishments flouting the ban.
