Ballot Boxes Reach Mancherial From Gujarat For Local Body Polls

The panchayat raj department has begun preparations to conduct the elections soon. In recent years, several new mandals and gram panchayats have been created in the erstwhile Adilabad district.

ADILABAD: Preparations are underway for the upcoming local body elections, with ballot boxes brought to Mancherial from Gujarat. Officials have inspected the ballot boxes and stored them securely in strong rooms at the district headquarters.

Mancherial panchayat officer Venkateshwar Rao said 970 ballot boxes were transported with police protection from Jamnagar and Devbhumi Dwarka districts in Gujarat. They are now stored at the CISF quarters in Naspur, Mancherial. He noted that transporting the ballot boxes over a distance of 3,200 km was a challenging task and appreciated the officials involved in bringing them safely.

The panchayat raj department has begun preparations to conduct the elections soon. In recent years, several new mandals and gram panchayats have been created in the erstwhile Adilabad district.

According to sources, the Adilabad district has 20 ZPTCs and 166 MPTCs, Nirmal district has 18 ZPTCs and 157 MPTCs, Mancherial district has 16 ZPTCs and 129 MPTCs, and Komaram Bheem Asifabad district has 15 ZPTCs and 127 MPTCs. In Mancherial alone, there are 306 gram panchayats, 2,680 wards, 129 MPTCs, and 16 each of MPPs and ZPTCs.

The number of ZPTC seats is expected to increase this time due to the creation of new mandals in Nirmal, Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, and Mancherial districts. For example, Adilabad district’s ZPTCs have increased from 17 to 20 compared to the last local body elections.

District panchayat officers have instructed village secretaries to prepare the final voter lists.

Meanwhile, leaders aspiring to contest in the local body elections are concerned about potential changes in existing reservations for MPTCs, ZPTCs, and sarpanch posts. Many are assessing the political dynamics and their chances of winning, whether by securing a party ticket or contesting as independents, depending on whether their seat falls under a reserved or general category.
