Auto, RTC Collision Exposes Illegal Explosives Transport in Karimnagar

After the crash, the auto driver discarded two boxes containing explosives into a nearby drainage canal before fleeing the scene after being questioned by suspicious locals

KARIMNAGAR: A collision between an auto and an RTC bus in Madhuranagar, Gangadhara Mandal, revealed a sinister plot involving the illegal transportation of explosives. The auto, carrying hazardous materials, collided with a bus travelling from Karimnagar to Jagtial.

After the crash, the auto driver discarded two boxes containing explosives into a nearby drainage canal before fleeing the scene after being questioned by suspicious locals. Responding police found bags with 600 gelatin sticks and cartons with cordex wire bundles at the site. Further investigation uncovered that the auto was operating under two different registration numbers, one of which — AP-36-W-6231 — was not listed in RTA records.

Authorities suspect that the practice of switching number plates is intended to mask frequent illegal transport of explosives, a growing problem in Karimnagar and Jagtial districts, regions known for their vast underground mines. Officials are now probing whether this incident is part of a larger smuggling operation, with a view that the explosives may be destined for remote locations for illegal mining and other illicit activities.

Officials have registered a case and are actively searching for the fleeing driver. They also warn that an accidental explosion during the transportation of such large quantities of explosives could have resulted in severe casualties and significant property damage.
