HYDERABAD: Pocharam IT Corridor police arrested an autorickshaw driver within 24 hours after he allegedly drugged, raped and robbed a woman passenger. The accused, Amgot Jeetya (50), on Thursday afternoon lured the victim while she was on her way to hospital in Bharatnagar, promising to drop her there, police said.
Jeetya, who interacted with the victim when she was crying over her husband’s ill health, offered her sedated toddy. After she fell unconscious, he parked his autorickshaw by the roadside, carried her to an isolated place in Bacharam, raped her and fled in his vehicle, police said.
He allegedly confessed before investigators that he waited until the victim was affected by the toddy, took her via Ghatkesar to Bacharam, committed the crime and fled with her Rs.1,500 and mobile phone. The victim realised she had been raped and robbed after regaining consciousness and lodged a complaint.
“Based on the complaint, we first shifted her to a government hospital for medical examination and treatment in the presence of BHAROSA teams. We swung into action after recording her statement, formed two special teams, tracked the accused by examining over 50 CCTV footages from Bharatnagar to the crime scene, identified him through the auto registration plates and lifted him from his house in Pratap Singaram on Friday,” said K. Kankaiah Goud, SHO, Pocharam IT Corridor.
A case of rape, kidnap and robbery has been booked against him. The case will be transferred to Uppal police for further investigation, sources said.
