NIZAMABAD: For the first time in Telangana, police have seized assets worth ₹5.15 crore of an accused in a drugs case. Orders for seizure of properties had been issued by authorities concerned in Bombay and Chennai under Section 68F (2) of the NDPS Act. Following this, acting on the directions of Nizamabad commissioner of police P. Sai Chaitanya, Bodhan ACP P. Srinivas and his team investigated an interstate network involved in manufacture and supply of alprazolam. Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act against five interstate drug smugglers allegedly involved in the manufacture and supply of alprazolam within the limits of Bodhan Rural police station. All five have been arrested and sent to judicial custody. Police seized around 2.5 kg of alprazolam, valued at about ₹25 lakh, a car, eight mobile phones and ₹2.50 lakh in cash from them. Subsequently, police interrogated them about information on manufacture and supply of alprazolam. A special team of 15 police personnel, led by Bodhan Rural circle inspector D. Vijay Babu, travelled to Maharashtra as part of its investigations. Police identified a factory in the Satara industrial area that had obtained permission to manufacture fertilisers under the name Surya Prabha Pharma Chem. However, the factory had been manufacturing alprazolam. During searches, police seized around 30 kg of alprazolam, valued at about ₹3 crore, ₹12 lakh in cash, and a Ford car. Police have sealed the factory. Police then approached sub-registrar and tahsildar offices in Pune, Satara and Ahmednagar districts of Maharashtra and collected details of movable and immovable properties belonging to the accused and their family members.
These properties had allegedly been acquired through the illegal sale of alprazolam by Amarsingh, Basavaraj, and Laxman Goud and their family members. Police said the properties are worth around ₹5.15 crore as per government valuation, while their market value is estimated to be higher. Police collected and analysed mobile phone data related to around 20 persons connected with the case. The information has been shared with the authorities concerned for further investigation.
Commissioner Sai Chaitanya underlined that the police department would continue to identify and seize properties allegedly acquired through narcotics trafficking.
