Assembly: BJP Demands for a Month Long Winter Session

The party leadership expressed its resolve to raise a strong voice against the ‘incompetent rule’ of the Congress and to expose the failures of the Revanth Reddy government.

Hyderabad: The BJP on Sunday demanded a longer Winter Session of the Assembly, for ensuring detailed discussion on a wide range of public issues. The demand came following a meeting chaired by party’s state president N. Ramchander Rao, with BJP MLAs and MLCs.

The party discussed the course of action to be followed by the legislators during the session, increased coordination and effective means to raise key issues concerning the public. The party leadership expressed its resolve to raise a strong voice against the ‘incompetent rule’ of the Congress and to expose the failures of the Revanth Reddy government.

Earlier, BJP Legislature Party leader Aleti Maheshwar Reddy demanded that the Winter Session be held for at least one month to debate public issues. He said the government must clearly announce the duration of the session which begins on Monday.

Speaking to mediapersons, Maheshwar Reddy alleged that the present Congress government was violating the norms, as the House was being convened for less than 100 days each year. He accused the present government of following the footsteps of the BRS regime by bringing down the number of sittings.

He recalled that during the previous Winter Season, the session was held for only one day. He questioned whether the government had the courage to allow discussions on people’s issues. Maheshwar Reddy said farmers and agricultural labourers continued to face serious hardships. He alleged that the government made numerous promises but abandoned them after coming to power.

The BJPLP leader asked why the Chief Minister was avoiding discussions, in contrast to his claims that the under the Congress government the Assembly could take debate on any issue for as many days as needed.
