ASP to Probe CI’s Handling of Mahabubabad Polytechnic Students
Opposition leaders have also condemned the conduct of the circle inspector and his use of force against the students.

Mahabubabad:Mahabubabad superintendent of police Shabarish has ordered a detailed inquiry into the alleged high-handed behaviour of Mahabubabad Town circle inspector (CI) Raghupathi Reddy towards polytechnic students who attempted to lay siege at the District Collectorate on Wednesday.
The students had been protesting against the Shakti scheme and demanding immediate withdrawal of GO 97 which, they fear, will lead to privatisation of the polytechnic institutions.
To prevent the students from entering the collectorate, the CI allegedly held two students by the throat for some time. Videos of the incident have gone viral on social media, triggering criticism of the way police handled the protest by students.
Opposition leaders have also condemned the conduct of the circle inspector and his use of force against the students.
Amid growing criticism, the SP has ordered an inquiry by an ASP-rank officer and removed Raghupathi Reddy from his present duties.
Police officials said further action against the CI would be considered based on the findings of the inquiry.
