ASI Tests Ramappa Temple Foundation

The investigations included Plate Load Tests and collection of undisturbed soil samples as per IS Code Standards 1888 and 2720: Reports

HYDERABAD: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) Hyderabad Circle has conducted geotechnical tests at the newly completed foundation of Kameshwaralayam in the Ramappa temple premises to check ground stability before resetting removed structural members.

The investigations included Plate Load Tests and collection of undisturbed soil samples as per IS Code Standards 1888 and 2720. The tests, carried out with MTLS Engineers Pvt. Ltd., Hyderabad and retired geotechnical experts from NIT Warangal, assessed the stabilised ground condition for reconstruction.

Built by the Kakatiyas, Kameshwaralayam is a Sabha Mandapam on the eastern side of the Ramappa temple. The foundation, completed at a cost of ₹2.89 crore, precedes the ₹6.89-crore superstructure restoration tender now in process.

The temple, dismantled in 2012 due to dilapidation, remained pending for reconstruction until funds were sanctioned in 2022. ASI officials said the remaining work would proceed layer by layer after stability results confirm the foundation’s load-bearing capacity and indicate if further strengthening is required.
