Around 90-100 Telugu Candidates Qualify For UPSC Personality Test

The candidates are advised to regularly check the commission's website for further updates, it said.

Hyderabad:Around 90 to 100 candidates from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have cleared the UPSC Civil Services Mains examination and qualified for the Personality Test, according to experts from the coaching sector.

Close to 1,000 candidates from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh appeared for the Mains examination conducted from August 21 to 30. Of them, around 750 were from Hyderabad, where two examination centres were set up, said Gopalkrishna B, senior coach. Candidates from Vijayawada and Delhi also formed part of the Telugu aspirant pool.

Some of the Telugus who qualified include Pavan Sai Varaprasad Nagireddy, Banothu Praveen, Rondla Nikitha Reddy, E.N. Siva Sai Karthikeya Reddy, Bhukya Varun Tej, Narra Sainath Rohit, Veesa Dheeraj Vineel, Shaganti Harsha Vardhan, Sandela Sankeerthana and Matli Tharuntej Reddy.

The dates of the personality tests will be announced in due course. The interviews will be held at the UPSC office at Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi.

“No request for change in the date and time of the personality test (interview) intimated to the candidates will ordinarily be entertained,” the UPSC said.

The candidates are advised to regularly check the commission's website for further updates, it said.

The marks sheets of all the candidates will be uploaded on the commission's website within 15 days of the declaration of the final results, following the personality tests, and will remain available for 30 days, the statement said.

Several of those who qualified have appeared for the examination multiple times, with some clearing the Mains on their fourth attempt. Persistence and perseverance have been common factors among successful candidates, he said. “There are also candidates who have been at it for years, and their perseverance has finally paid off,” Gopalkrishna said.

The candidates will now prepare for the Personality Test, which is expected to have a “different flavour” of questions, particularly in the context of the discussions around the UPSC’s centenary celebrations held on October 1.

Another coach said candidates could expect questions that examine their motivation, outlook and understanding of public service, apart from their academic and professional backgrounds.

“The Personality Test could have a different flavour this time. All these candidates have already qualified in the written examination. The focus now will be on understanding the individual, their motivation to join the services and how they look at issues concerning society and governance,” he said.

The interview process is also expected to be expedited. The first week of December is being anticipated as a possible starting point, with the process likely to conclude by February, according to the coaches.
