Arjun Wasn't Arrested Yet in India, Says Nikitha's Family

In a joint statement, Nikitha’s family members said, “Following our direct communication with US law enforcement authorities and police officials in the state of Maryland, the reports claiming the arrest of a suspect are false and baseless.”

Hyderabad: Family members of Nikitha Godishala, who was found murdered in an apartment in the United States, said that the primary accused Arjun Sharma was not apprehended by authorities in India.

In a joint statement, Nikitha’s family members said, “Following our direct communication with US law enforcement authorities and police officials in the state of Maryland, the reports claiming the arrest of a suspect are false and baseless.”

They said: “We are presently in continuous coordination with the Indian Embassy in the United States, consular officials and relevant Indian Government authorities. The process for the repatriation of our daughter’s mortal remains is currently underway.”

Speaking with the media, Nikitha’s father Anand Godishala said “Officials from the US said that it will take 3 to 4 more days to bring her body back. We are sincerely requesting all officials to expedite the process and bring Nikitha back home.”

Nikitha was reported missing by Sharma, who is the primary suspect in the case. After reporting her missing, Arjun fled the country and flew back to India. Howard county police found Nikitha’s body with multiple stab wounds in Arjun’s apartment in Columbia, Maryland and issued an arrest warrant for Arjun.

BJP state president N. Ramchander Rao visited Nikitha’s family members and consoled the grieving family. He wrote a letter to Union external affairs minister S. Jaishankar and requested him to help expedite the repatriation process and initiate action against Arjun Sharma.
