Archaeological Find: Four 13th-Century Hero Stones Discovered At Rameswaram Banda

Hyderabad: Four rare hero stone sculptures carved in the Kakatiya style were found at Rameswaram banda in Patancheru. Kavali Chandrakanth, a member of the Kotha Telangana Charithra Team has identified sculptures as veeragallu. He said the four sculptures are depicted with their hair tied in a loose knot at the back of their heads, wearing large earrings, neck ornaments, waistbands, warrior-style loincloths, and anklets.

The sculptures were erected as memorials in their honour. He further stated two warriors with swords and bows are identified as Ekkatis similar to modern day commandos who are skilled in the use of multiple weapons. They were also referred to as Ekangaveerulu. A Shivalingam carved above the head of one of the warrior indicates he was likely a devotee of Lord Shiva, Chandrakant added.
