Annual training for legislators from now on: Ponnam

HYDERABAD: The Telangana Legislature and the government will make training programmes for MLAc and MLAs an annual event, minister Ponnam Prabhakar said on Thursday.
Speaking to media persons at the MCR HRD Institute where a two-day orientation programme concluded on Thursday, Prabhakar said the programme was of great use to the legislators, especially first-timers.
“The purpose of the programme is to better equip the MLAs and MLCs to engage in effective discussions on issues of public importance during the sessions. The attendees were informed about rules, procedures, and the nature of issues that need to be taken up in the Houses. Our goal is to ensure that the legislature truly becomes the platform for raising issues of public concern, and improve service to the people,” Prabhakar said.
The event was boycotted by the principal opposition BRS which said its decision was a reaction to ‘unilateral decisions’ by Assembly Speaker, who was “throttling their voice.”
