HYDERABAD: The shrine of Our Lady of Good Health at AC Guards, Masab Tank, Khairatabad, witnessed large gatherings of devotees as the annual Mary’s feast was celebrated. The festivities began with the Vigil Mass at midnight, followed by Holy Communion. The Birthday Mass at 4 am, served by Rev. Fr. Anthony Muthu, included a cake-cutting ceremony. The shrine, known as the largest octagonal church in Asia, was the centre of the celebrations.

Anthony Bhagyanathan, the oldest member of the shrine, said: “Devotees from Aug. 29 onwards chose to walk to the shrine to attend mass, some barefoot. For the Catholic community these days are special. People adopt simple food habits and engage in charity.”
The shrine is popular among those seeking healing for health issues, drawing devotees from all religions. Mary Rajamani Pillai, a devotee, said: “This year I was able to build my own house. It was a petition I submitted here during one of the feasts. I believe my prayers were heard.”
The pontifical high mass in Telugu was celebrated by Cardinal Poola Anthony, who preached the message of love from the Bible. Msgr. Yeruva Balashowreddy, vicar general, led a morning mass that attracted several youngsters. The evening procession of Mother Mary’s statue drew a large number of devotees, marking the culmination of the feast.
