Andhra Pradesh Skips KRMB Meeting on Drinking Water from Krishna
Telangana irrigation department, however, was present for the meeting with Engineer-in-Chief (general) G Anil Kumar submitting the details of drinking water requirement for the state till July.

Hyderabad: The Telangana government on Monday informed the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) that Andhra Pradesh can get only a half TMC ft of water as its share of drinking water from the river till end of this July and the KRMB must immediately stop Andhra Pradesh from drawing water from the right bank regulator of the Nagarjuna Sagar project, and from the Muchumarri Lift Irrigation Project in Kurnool district.
This must be done, the Telangana representatives told the KRMB as the state requires around 10 TMCft of water to meet its drinking water needs this summer season and any drawals from Andhra Pradesh will adversely impact Telangana’s ability to provide drinking water to its people.
The demand was placed before the KRMB at a meeting that the Board called on Monday which was skipped by Andhra Pradesh at the last minute. It is learnt that Andhra Pradesh sent a letter to KRMB expressing the inability of its officers to attend the meeting and sought another date for the same.
Telangana irrigation department, however, was present for the meeting with Engineer-in-Chief (general) G Anil Kumar submitting the details of drinking water requirement for the state till July.
He informed the Board that the state requires around 10 TMCft of water to meet drinking water needs of Hyderabad, Khammam, and Mahbubnagar and after calculating these needs and the water already drawn by Andhra Pradesh and taking into account evaporation losses, Andhra Pradesh can only draw .5 TMCft of water.
Telangana said no water can be drawn by AP under any circumstance with immediate effect either from Nagarjunasagar and Muchumarri in Kurnool district without prior permission of the Board.
