Ambedkar’s Reservations Gave Dalits Political Voice: Vivek

The Mala community had played a key role in the Congress party’s victory and urged newly elected sarpanches and ward members to be a strong voice for marginalised sections: Government adviser Mohammed Ali Shabbir

NIZAMABAD: Minister for labour, employment, mines and geology G. Vivek Venkataswamy on Sunday said that constitutional reservations introduced by Babasaheb Dr B.R. Ambedkar had empowered Dalits politically and socially, and called on them to use that power for the wider good of society.

Speaking at a felicitation programme organised by the district Mala Mahanadu at the newly built Ambedkar Bhavan in Nizamabad, Vivek said special focus would be given to the development of Mala localities. He said the government would seek special funds for basic infrastructure such as drainage, CC roads and drinking water in Dalit habitations.

He also stressed the importance of education in transforming lives and urged elected representatives to encourage Dalit children to pursue higher studies and avail themselves of government schemes, including overseas education scholarships. Recalling the ideals of his father, Kaka Venkataswamy, he said he would continue to work for Dalit unity and welfare.

Government adviser Mohammed Ali Shabbir said the Mala community had played a key role in the Congress party’s victory and urged newly elected sarpanches and ward members to be a strong voice for marginalised sections.

Urban MLA Dhanpal Suryanarayana Gupta, Mala Mahanadu leaders and others attended.
