Allied Health Professionals Integral to Modern Healthcare, Says NIMS Dean

Specialised healthcare has expanded opportunities for allied health sciences graduates

Hyderabad: The expansion of medicine from family physicians, relying mainly on clinical examination, to specialised branches has increased the role of allied health professionals in patient care, said speakers at a student orientation programme at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS).

Addressing students of the 2026–27 academic year at the NIMS learning centre, NIMS associate dean Dr Bhushan Raju said every allied health sciences course had its own importance in the healthcare system. Just as every organ in the human body has a role, each course also plays a role in patient care, he said.

He said medical science had developed significantly over the years, with the healthcare sector expanding into several specialised branches. This had also led to the growth of allied health professional courses, with more specialised courses expected to be introduced in the future.

NIMS has been offering four-year BSc courses in 11 departments under the College of Allied Health Sciences since the 2021–22 academic year.

NIMS Dean Dr P. Chandrasekhar, the chief guest, said allied health sciences courses had significant importance in healthcare. Executive Registrar Dr Paranjyothi also spoke on the occasion.
