“When we rescued a baby girl on May 22 from Shoba Rani, a nurse who runs a clinic in Ramakrishna nagar Peerzadiguda, we did not expect that the investigation would lead to such a horrendous trafficking racket. I appreciate Medipally police for acting swiftly and rescuing 11 babies. We never knew that our sting operation would become a threat to our lives”, said Anusha during an interaction with Deccan Chronicle.
“We have been getting constant threatening calls from the 18 families, who had purchased babies from Shoba Rani and other traffickers from Delhi, Pune and other states. They warned of causing harm to us,” said Vaishnavi.
They pointed out that many families were sending threatening Whatsapp messages.
“One woman said “Everything was good. We all were happy after getting kids. It was you who created the mess. You should face the consequences,” Anusha said.
She added, “on Monday I called our local ACP and informed him about the life threat. He appreciated our work and assured to provide security to all three of us.”
Posing themselves as being childless, who were keen on adopting children, the three sisters, in a daring sting operation around 9 pm on May 22, caught the kingpin Shoba Rani red-handed and rescued a two-month-old baby girl and immediately dialled 100 and informed Medipally police, child protection units and woman and child welfare department officials.
“As the parents had purchased the babies from Shoba Rani over four to five years back, they had developed attachment towards them. We have registered cases but we are yet to arrest them. This can be done only after the entire racket is detected”, police sources said.
Meanwhile, police have identified over 70 traffickers from six states involved in this racket.
