AIG Hospital’s Dr G.V. Rao Wins Padma Shri Award For The Year 2026

Widely regarded as one of the pioneers in advanced GI and robotic surgery in India

Hyderabad: President Droupadi Murmu on Monday presented the Padma Shri for 2026 to Dr G.V. Rao, director and chief of GI, Invasive and Robotic Surgery at AIG Hospitals, at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. In a release, AIG Hospitals said the award recognises Dr Rao’s contribution to gastrointestinal, minimally invasive and robotic surgery, as well as his work in patient care, surgical innovation and academics over several decades.

Widely regarded as one of the pioneers in advanced GI and robotic surgery in India, Dr Rao has played a transformative role in establishing world-class surgical practices and training programmes, significantly impacting the lives of thousands of patients across the country and beyond.

The recognition marks a milestone for AIG Hospitals and the medical fraternity, reflecting the growth of Indian healthcare and surgical expertise.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rao expressed his gratitude and dedicated the honour to his mentors, colleagues, students, patients, and family members who have been part of his remarkable journey in medicine and surgery.
