AIG Brings Digital Review To Operating Rooms, To record surgeries for review, training

AIG Hospitals will introduce a digital system that allows surgical procedures to be securely recorded and reviewed by doctors for training, case discussions and improving surgical practices, under a collaboration with Johnson & Johnson.

The Hyderabad-based hospital will implement J&J's Polyphonic Surgery platform, which brings surgical videos, case reviews, learning resources and feedback onto a single digital platform. AIG said it would be among the early hospitals in India and the Asia-Pacific region to adopt the system.

The technology will allow surgical teams to revisit procedures after an operation, discuss cases and use surgical videos for training and knowledge-sharing. It is also intended to improve collaboration among surgeons, operating room teams and residents.

AIG will work with J&J to evaluate the system through its use by surgeons, operating room teams, residents, information technology professionals and hospital administrators. The hospital said the exercise would help assess how connected digital technologies could improve clinical practices and operating-room efficiency.

Dr G.V. Rao, director and chief of surgery at AIG Hospitals, said surgery involved not only the procedure in the operating room but also planning, coordination, subsequent review and learning.

He said the technology could help surgical teams communicate better, learn from procedures and train doctors more effectively, with the aim of providing more precise and consistent patient care.
