AICC Invites Telangana Congress BC Leaders for Delhi Meeting

Rahul Gandhi to meet Telangana BC leaders on May 26; caste census hailed as national model.

Hyderabad: The AICC has invited state ministers, Congress MPs, MLCs, MLAs and corporation chairpersons hailing from the Backward Classes communities for a meeting in Delhi on May 26 to discuss the caste census conducted by the Telangana government. AICC leader Rahul Gandhi will interact with the leaders. Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Konda Surekha will take part in the meeting, party sources said.

The Congress high command has appreciated the Congress government for conducting caste census within a year of coming to power and passing a bill in the Legislative Assembly to enhance BC community reservations to 42 per cent in education, employment and local bodies.

In the AICC meetings held in Ahmedabad in April and also the CWC meeting held in Delhi early this month, the party high command had praised Telangana's caste census and termed it a 'role model' for the country. It said Telangana's caste census had compelled the BJP-led government at the Centre to conduct caste census as part of the upcoming population census across the country.

Against this backdrop, Rahul Gandhi has decided to hold a meeting with Congress BC leaders from Telangana and interact with them on caste census. He is expected to give a call to BC leaders to actively promote caste census as Congress party's achievement.

Meanwhile, speculation is rife that the party high command will also discuss filling of nominated posts in the party and government in Telangana and provide adequate representation to BC communities in these appointments. The new executive committee for TPCC is expected to be constituted very soon and it is expected that party high command will provide adequate representation to BCs in the new TPCC executive committee.
